Simba SC Media and Communications Manager Ahmed Ally has remained confident they will qualify for their first-ever final of the CAF Confederation Cup despite being drawn to face Stellenbosch in the semi-finals.

The Msimbazi Reds were drawn to face the South African club following their success to eliminate Egyptian side Al Masry. Simba finally broke their quarter-final jinx after a dramatic 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Al Masry at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

During the fixture, goalkeeper Moussa Camara emerged the hero, saving two of Al Masry’s three penalty attempts after the two-legged tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch reached the next stage after tossing out defending champions Zamalek. After securing a 0-0 draw in the first leg at home, the Stellies went to Egypt and snatched a 1-0 win to qualify 1-0 on aggregate.

“It’s very possible for Simba to reach the final. We have the quality, and everything is in place. Fortunately, if we qualify for the final, we’ll play the first leg away and finish the tie at home. So what can stop us?” he said confidently.

“Our opponents are not weak; reaching the semifinals proves their readiness. We were prepared to face Zamalek, but Stellenbosch knocked them out right at home. That shows they didn’t get here by chance.”

On qualifying for the semis after several attempts, Ally said: “We are extremely happy to have reached this far. It’s a huge step forward because it boosts Simba’s stature. We’ve improved our CAF rankings—from seventh to fourth place in Africa. This is a positive sign for the club and our fans.”

The first leg will be played at the New Aman Complex in Zanzibar on Sunday, April 20 with the return leg slated for Sunday, April 27, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
