Mighty Wanderers FC coach Bob Mpinganjira has spoken of the importance of his team’s experienced players in the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The TNM Super League giants host Jwaneng Galaxy FC from Botswana in Lilongwe on Sunday. The preliminary round, first leg match of the CAF competition will take place at 40-seater Bingu National Stadium.
Ahead of the meeting with Galaxy, Mpinganjira told Pan-Africa Football that his coaching panel has done its best to analyse their opponents.
“We are ready for this game and from what we have gathered, it [Galaxy] is a good team. We also have players with international experience, so we are hopeful that we will advance to the next round. It is a big team and we will do our part,” the coach said.
The FDH Cup holders boast experienced players such as winger Wisdom Mpinganjira, who is the son of the coach, and others such as defenders Stanley Sanudi, Lawrence Chaziya and goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa who have also had time with the senior national football team.
Chipuwa and Sanudi are surviving members of the Wanderers’ squad that last participated in the CAF competition seven years ago.
The Blantyre-based team, which is also called the Nomads, has not competed on the continent since 2018 when they were hammered 6-1 on aggregate by Congolese side AS Vita at the same stage of the Confederation Cup.
The return leg will be played at Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana on September 27.
