Mighty Wanderers FC have suffered a minor setback ahead of their 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup game against Jwaneng Galaxy in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The TNM Super League giants will be without two of their influential players when they host Botswana’s FNB Premiership opponents at Bingu National Stadium in the preliminary round, second leg match.
Ahead of the game, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira disclosed that he will be without defender Chimwemwe Nkhoma and winger Gaddie Chirwa.
“So far, we have serious injuries of Gaddie Chirwa and Chimwemwe Nkhoma. Those are the only two players that will miss this game,” the coach said.
The Nomads trainer stressed the importance of the Blantyre-based team making the most of home ground advantage against the more experienced opponents.
“It is very important that we get a good result here. We do not know what the atmosphere will be like in Botswana, so we have to make sure that we use our home-ground advantage. So we will try to get a good result here,” the Wanderers boss added.
The return leg will be played at Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana on September 27.
The Nomads are returning to continental football since 2018 when they were hammered 6-1 on aggregate by Congolese side AS Vita at the same stage of the Confederation Cup.
The FDH Cup holders boast experienced players such as winger Wisdom Mpinganjira, who is the son of the coach, and others such as defenders Stanley Sanudi, Lawrence Chaziya and goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa who have also had time with the senior national football team.
Chipuwa and Sanudi are surviving members of the Wanderers’ squad that last participated in the CAF competition seven years ago.
