Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers FC’s board member Tiya Somba Banda has resigned from his post due to conflict of interest ahead of the club’s participation in the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup.
In a statement, the TNM Super League pace-setters confirmed Banda’s resignation, saying his club position was in conflict with his other designation as a CAF General Match Coordinator.
“As we prepare for the upcoming Confederation Cup, a potential conflict of interest was identified involving Mr Tiya Somba Banda, who serves as both a Director of Mighty Wanderers FC and a CAF General Match Coordinator,” the statement, signed by Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe, reads.
“To ensure the integrity and fairness of the competition, it was necessary for Mr Tiya Somba Banda to step down from his position on the Wanderers’ Board. Accordingly, his resignation has been accepted, effective July 31, 2025.”
Wanderers, who are also called the Nomads, will compete in the continental tournament owing to their Castle Challenge Cup exploits of last season. The Nomads lead the 16-member TNM Super League log table, one point ahead of second-placed rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
