CAFCC: Wanderers ready for Jwaneng Galaxy challenge–Mpinganjira

Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira has commented on his team’s opponents in the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup.

The draw for the preliminary round of the continental cup champions took place in Tanzania on Saturday.

Wanderers FC were paired with Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy FC, opponents Mpinganjira says he respects owing to their recent history.

“All I can say is that we have welcomed the draw with enthusiasm,” the coach said.

“Our opponents [Jwaneng Galaxy] are a good side. They have a more recent experience in this tournament than us and records show that they fared well. We are up to the challenge, we just need to prepare adequately.”

The preliminary round will kick off in September. The winner between Wanderers and Galaxy will meet either Gabon’s FC 105 or Zambia’s Zesco United in the second preliminary round.

Galaxy reached the group stages of the continental cup in the 2023/24 season. The Botswana team is ranked 39th in the CAF Club rankings released recently.

They were promoted to Botswana’s FNB Premiership in 2015 and have gone on to amass three league titles, with the most recent being in the 2023/24 season.

Galaxy FC was founded in 2014 following the merger between Jwaneng Comets and the Debswana Youngsters.
