Morocco’s Wydad AC began Group B play in the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) with a routine 3-0 victory over Kenyan club Nairobi United on Sunday at the Stade Larbi Zouali in Casablanca.
Ayoub Boucheta’s powerful strike in the 3rd minute set the tone for the hosts, who were on the offensive for the entire match against their overwhelmed visitors. Mohamed Bouchouari’s excellent long distance shot just before halftime put WAC beyond reach before the second half began.
The match settled down after halftime with the hosts content to dominate possession and play the victory out. Outside of a couple of hopeful efforts from distance, the visitors from Kenya failed to pose any sort of threat and WAC added one more goal late on when Walid Sabbar set up fellow substitute Mohamed Rayhi for a clever finish over goalkeeper Kevin Oduor.
WAC will look to take full control of Group B on Friday when they travel to Zanzibar to face Tanzanian club Azam FC. Nairobi United will return home to the Kenyan capital to host the other winners from Matchday 1 in the group, DR Congo’s AS Maniema Union.
