Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo has watered down assertions by sections of Ghanaians that the club will suffer a heavy loss at Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors lost 1-0 to the Moroccan giants in the first leg of the second preliminary round in Accra with the return encounter set for the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Friday, October 24.
Ghanaian clubs have suffered heavy losses in North Africa with the recent casualty being reigning champions Gold Stars who recorded a 7-0 aggregate defeat against Algeria outfit JS Kabylie in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Michael Akuffo however believes that, with discipline, Asante Kotoko will put up a strong performance in Casablanca.
“It’s not possible, when the players especially the defenders, the attackers remain resolute and make sure that we are able to transition from defence to attack, making sure that we have people at the back so that if they are on counter attack we will be on our feet to take the ball from them,” Michael Akuffo told Radio Gold.
“This game is very tricky because you are down by one goal and you go there and open up and if you don’t take care things will go worse but I know coach Karim Zito will do a good job when they get there.”
The winner of both legs will qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup with the journey looking extremely difficult for the Ghana side to achieve, judging from Wydad AC’s continental experience.
