Al-Hilal Omdurman SC star Emmanuel Flomo has apologized to the Sudanese team-mates and fans for the red card he picked in Friday’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) Group C match in South Africa.
With five minutes remaining on the clock, the Liberian, having come off the bench, lost his cool. The forward elbowed the hosts’ defender Khuliso Mudau to receive the marching orders at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
Reflecting on his moment of madness that put Al-Hilal under pressure with Sundowns pushing for a late winner, Flomo has taken to his Facebook page to issue the apology.
“I want to sincerely apologize to my teammates, the staff, and all our fans for the red card. I am deeply frustrated with myself for letting the team down on my debut. I promise to learn from this mistake and come back stronger for the rest of the CAF Champions League campaign. Thank you for your support,” he said.
During the game, the visitors scored twice through Abdel Raouf while the Betway Premiership champions relied on Arthur Sales and midfielder Teboho Mokoena for the goals.
Al-Hilal and Sundowns now have five points apiece from three matches, ahead of their rematch scheduled for Libya.
In another match for the group, Saint-Eloi Lupopo beat MC Alger 1-0 on Sunday to increase the tally to four points. Rulani Mokwena’s side anchor the standings with just one point from three games.
