Morocco's AS FAR seized control of Group B in the CAF Champions League following a 2-0 victory over Congolese club AS Maniema Union on Saturday evening. First half goals from Khalid Ait Ouarkhane and Amine Zouhzouh helped the military club move three points ahead at the top of the group with two matches remaining.

After displaying a well organized defense and voicing hopes of earning a result in Morocco, it was a disappointing match for supporters of Maniema Union. AS FAR dominated the first half and took the lead in the 12th minute when a cross from left back Tó Carneiro caused havoc in the Maniema Union penalty area before Ait Ouarkhane bundled in the loose ball.

Things went from bad to worse at the worst possible time for the visitors from DR Congo just before halftime. In first half stoppage time, a free kick from Zouhzouh got by the Maniema Union wall with plenty of power right at goalkeeper Brunel Efonge. The shot stopper had all sorts of trouble and allowed the ball to sneak by him on a goal where he should have done better.

Angry Maniema Union coach Papy Kimoto inspired his team at halftime but the visitors could not find the goal they needed despite improved play. Maniema Union are still only two points out of second place but will now need to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns at home next weekend to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages. AS FAR can confirm their place with a draw against Raja CA.
