Al Hilal SC coach Florent Ibenge has urged his Sudanese side to raise its performance on Tuesday when lining up against Al Ahly in their CAF Champions League quarterfinal, first-leg match .
The Congolese tactician told Al Hilal's media that Al Ahly poses a threat to the Sudanese team’s ambition of qualifying for the semifinal, hence the need to raise their performance level at the Cairo International Stadium.
“Everybody awaits this game. We are going to do our best. We know it is a very big team; the best team in Africa,” he said.
“We will do our best to be at their level, do well and win our second game in Mauritania and qualify [for the semifinal]. We are going to do everything because we want to go to the semifinal.”
The reverse fixture will take place in Mauritania where Al Hilal are hosting matches due to the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
Al Ahly dominate matches against the Sudanese opponents in the CAF Champions League after having won five times, lost twice and the other result being a draw.
The two teams have not been in their best form in the CAF Champions League with the holders winning twice, losing twice and drawing once in the last five consecutive games. Al Hilal are smarting from back-to-back losses in the continental league with the other results being two wins and a draw.
