CAFCL: Dynamos motivated to beat Rivers United – Mutapa

Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa has said his team is aiming for a positive away result against Rivers United in their matchday four of the CAF Champions League, describing the opponents as strong at home but beatable.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture on Sunday, Mutapa praised Rivers United’s energy in attack and highlighted their goalkeeper’s past man-of-the-match performance, while insisting his side has identified weaknesses to exploit.

He added his players are motivated to close the gap on the top two and are confident due to previous away victories, including results that helped them reach the group stage.

Dynamos wary of Rivers United threats

“We are motivated to win the game, but we are aware of what Rivers United can do on home soil,” Mutapa told reporters. “We know our position is not good, but this gives us an opportunity to win and get back into contention.”

Mutapa expressed disappointment with the first-leg outcome in Ndola but said he was satisfied with the team’s display and chance creation, despite failing to score.

“We were in top during the first meeting, we created several chances, but our main undoing was to find the back of the net. We have worked and rectified on the mistakes, we are ready to give our best,” he added.

Speaking at the same pre-match press conference, Dynamos defender Samuel Ayodeji, said it was a “nice feeling” to see former teammates, but stressed that “work comes first.”

Mutapa ended by urging supporters to keep backing and praying for the team as it aims for a positive result.

The game between Rivers United and Dynamos will be played at 18:00 hours CAT on February 1, 2026, at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
