CAFCL: Finidi George blames poor finishing for Rivers United defeat

Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George blamed a lack of finishing in the final third and a loss of control in the second half for his team’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) loss to Pyramids FC.

Pyramids FC, the defending champions, won 3-0 in a CAF Champions League Group A fixture at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Saturday.

Ahmed Atef El Sayed scored all three goals in the second half for the home team, as the Pride of Rivers failed to replicate their strong first-half performance.

Finidi, while reacting after the match, said errors and poor finishing caused his team’s defeat.

“We played well but the final touch was not there.”

“We did well in the first half and in the second half, their first goal was a mistake from our defender. If you allow a team like this to score, they will gain momentum, and from that they got their second goal, and from there the game was over.”

Rivers United, who now sit bottom of Group A, will look to bounce back on Friday when they welcome RS Berkane, who were also 3-0 victors over Power Dynamos F.C.
