Rivers United head coach Finidi George expressed disappointment with his team’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) defeat to Moroccan club RS Berkane on Friday.
The Port Harcourt club fell 1-2 after a late meltdown in the Group A encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Rivers United took the lead in the 37th minute when Mamadou Camara diverted the ball into his own net.
The visitors, however, scored two late goals through Youness El Kaabi and Mounir Chouiar to secure all three points.
Reacting after the disappointing defeat, Finidi said a draw would have been a good result for his team.
“I have to say a draw wouldn’t have been a good result for us, but the loss is devastating. I think the overall performance of my players deserves more than what the outcome of the game looked like. It is quite unfortunate that we lost today.”
After their defeat on Friday, Rivers United who are making their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League are yet to secure a victory from two games and are placed bottom of group A
