CAFCL: GoldStars qualification journey is over – JSK striker Aimen Mahious

JS Kabylie (JSK) forward Aimen Mahious expressed his belief that the Algerian club will overpower Ghanaian side GoldStars to advance in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL).

The Algerian side tamed the Ghana champions by 2-0 in the first leg from the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

JSK came into the game as favorites judging from their previous continental experience of winning two CAF Champions League trophies and 14 domestic Algerian titles.

Gold Stars, however, lifted their maiden Ghana Premier League title last season before succumbing by 1-0 to FA Cup winners, Asante Kotoko by 1-0 in the Champion-of-Champions at the Duns Park.

Mahious, who played a key part in their win at the Accra Sports Stadium, believes that the second leg will be full of fireworks despite admitting that Gold Stars are a good side.

“We played against a good team and we won 2-0 and at their home it’s difficult for them because we won,” Mahious told media men after their win.

“Inshallah we will make the game easy in Algeria and we will win and qualify. When they come, just as we played against a good team, when they come it’s going to be another game, not like this one,” he added.

The reverse fixture is billed for the Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium on Sunday, September 28 with Gold Stars needing to reverse the 2-0 deficit to stand a chance of qualifying for the second stage of the competition. Any form of draw or win in the second leg will see JSK qualify for the next phase of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
