Ghana Premier League champions, Gold Stars made a false start to their 2025/26 CAF Champions League preliminary round against JS Kabylie.
The Miners succumbed to an early pressure, going behind the Algerian side by 1-0 in the 21st minute mark at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 20.
The visitors piled more misery on the debutants when they nailed the coffin of the Bibiani based club with the second goal in the 71st minute.
Head coach of Gold Stars, Desmond Frimpong Manso admits that, his charges made too many mistakes that caused their defeat.
“I it was a difficult game and we made too many mistakes in the first half and to be frank playing against such a team, if you start to lose passes in the midfield, you will always find yourself wanting,” Frimpong Manso told media men after the game.
“So for me especially in the first half we didn’t play well, we were losing passes and also from midfield to attack, we were not supporting.
“So yes after conceding in the first half, I think we some changes in the second half and it wasn’t bad and I think it improved our team but then we again made a mistake and they capitalized on that.”
“So that’s what I think made us lose the game by that margin.”
Gold Stars are no faced with a mountain to climb as they will try to overturn the 2-0 deficit in the second leg on September 26 in Kabylie. The winner of the two leggged-tie will progress to the next round of the competition.
