CAFCL: Jamus hold Sudan’s Al Hilal in Juba stalemate

Sudan champions Al Hilal were held to a goalless draw in Juba by Jamus SC in the first leg of their 2025/26 CAF Champions League (CAFCL) preliminary stage clash. The Sudanese champions were the favorites heading into the tie, but they were unable to break down the South Sudan league champions away from home.

Newly appointed Al Hilal coach Laurențiu Reghecampf fielded a strong squad to face Jamus at the Juba National Stadium. With a Kagame Cup final appearance under their belt already this season, the Omdurman-based club hoped to score goals against heavy underdogs Jamus. Nigerian striker Sunday Adetunji was given his continental debut after joining Al Hilal in August.

The goalless draw is a big result for Jamus, who are making their Champions League debut. The club had only played continental football last season in the CAF Confederation Cup. Their opponents on the day have strong experience playing in Africa and were quarterfinalists last season in the Champions League.

The second leg will take place next Sunday in Zanzibar at the Amaan Stadium, where Hilal remain heavy favorites to advance.
