CAFCL: Kenya Police eye history by reaching the group stages – Ochieng

Kenya Police FC defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng believes they have what it takes to go beyond the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

The law enforcers kicked off their first preliminary round campaign with a 3-1 win against Mogadishu City Club and are currently preparing for the return slated for Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

During their first appearance in the continental football, Police failed to go past the second round of the Confederation Cup. After advancing from the first round following a 1-0 aggregate win against Ethiopian Coffee, their journey ended after losing 3-1 on aggregate against Zamalek of Egypt.

“We want to continue making history as we did the previous season when we won the Kenya Premier League. This competition is very important for us and we want to make history by reaching the group stages. We are working hard in training every day even as we pray to God to enable us to make it that far,” said Ochieng as quoted by Capital Sports.

Ochieng warns job done half way

Revisiting their return leg against Mogadishu, he said: “The job is only half done…we cannot say that it is complete. If it was, then we would not be spending time in training. We will not take the match lightly or relax but we will approach it seriously. We can only relax after 90 minutes.

“You saw in the first leg how the match was evenly balanced in the first half. They are a very good team…the fact that they are playing in this level of competition shows that you cannot simply dismiss them.”

Police under coach Etienne Ndayiragije are representing Kenya by virtue of winning the FKF Premier League last season.
