Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has attributed his team’s qualification to the CAF Champions League final to trust. He said this after the Betway Premiership champions came from behind to hold the Egyptian giants to a one-all draw and progress to the final courtesy of the away goal rule.

Reflecting on the match in a post-match interview, the Portuguese trainer attributed the result to trust.

"Trust, no doubt. Trust in the way that we have been living this experience together. Trust in the quality of each other, trust in the game plan for the match,” he said.

“Trust in living this experience together. Trust that even while losing 1-0, we would score. Trust that whatever happened in history had to be written today, and trust in our families at home, and trust in our supporters in South Africa.”

Sundowns were on the brink of the CAF Champions League exit after going behind 1-0 to the hosts’ 24th minute Taher Mohamed goal in the semifinal, second leg match.

However, the visitors responded as Yasser Ibrahim’s own goal in the 90th minute sent the South African side to the final. Sundowns will meet either Orlando Pirates or Pyramids FC in the final.
