Zambia Super League champions Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa believes that his side deserved to get more than a 1-0 win against visiting Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas in the first leg of their CAF Champions League fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
Dynamos secured an early advantage from the first preliminary round fixture after Innocent Kashita’s seventh minute goal made the difference. Kashita headed in a cross from skipper Prince Mumba to give the hosts the lead, and despite several created chances, Dynamos failed to add to their tally.
After the game. coach Osward Mutapa hailed his team but wished they could have scored more than a goal.
“Football has moments, when you have chances you need to take them,” Mutapa told reporters after the game. “It was a very difficult game, but I feel we did not do enough in terms of possessing the ball. In football when you have your moments you have to capitalize on that.”
Meanwhile, ASEC coach Julien Chevalier rued conceding an early goal by saying: “The game plan was to be organized, to use the opening minutes to see the intensity of the opponent. It is difficult to let yourselves concede with the first chance of the goal of the opponent.”
Dynamos will now carry a slim a 1-0 advantage heading into the return leg at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Sunday.
