Power Dynamos goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga believes the Zambian Super League champions have what it takes to complete a double over Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas when they two sides face off in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan, on Sunday.
Dynamos will head into the return carrying a slim 1-0 advantage but according to Mulenga, who plays for national team Chipolopolo, they know what is at stake heading into the clash.
“We have prepared well and the team looks better and ready for the Sunday match. We know what is at stake. Last time we exited the tournament in the early stages, this time around we don’t want that disappointment to repeat itself. So we will make sure we put up a better performance this time around,” Mulenga said as quoted by Bola News.
Meanwhile, former Zambia international Francis Kasonde has warned Dynamos to tread carefully since the fixture is far from far. Despite the 1-0 advantage, Kasonde believes the tie is far from being settled.
“Power Dynamos did well to get a win and keep a clean sheet at home, but African football can be unpredictable,” said Kasonde. “They must avoid complacency because ASEC Mimosa are a very experienced side, especially when playing at home in Abidjan.
“The team has what it takes to qualify for the next round, but they need to stay organised and take their chances. They should respect ASEC’s quality while remaining confident in their own abilities.”
On the first leg win, Kasonde said: “Credit goes to the coaches for ensuring a solid defensive performance. Keeping a clean sheet in a CAF match is not easy, and that gives Power a real advantage going into the second leg.”
Sunday’s clash will determine which side advances in pursuit of continental glory.
