CAFCL: Power Dynamos have had time to study Vipers SC – Mutapa

Zambia Super League champions Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa Jnr says his side is ready to pick up maximum points against Vipers FC away in Uganda.

Dynamos will take on Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round contest at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, Uganda, on Sunday.

Dynamos will be looking to make a good start

“We expect a tough game because this is a team (Vipers) that has been doing well at home but we are equally a determined side. We need to go and get a positive result. We will play the first leg well and come and finish the job here,” said Mutapa as quoted by FAZ Media.

The gaffer said his technical bench has taken enough time to study Vipers just like it did on ASEC Mimosas and has collected enough intelligence on their opponents.

On whether his team was ready after suffering defeat at the hands of Red Arrows in the MTN/Super League rescheduled week one fixture, he explained: “Yes we lost 2-1 to Red Arrows but if you look at how we played with a man down; we played like we were more.

“We created more chances than Red Arrows did. We defended well until the last minutes when we allowed the other goal. Yes we lost but we are focused on what is at stake.”

Katebe confident Dynamos will triumph over Vipers

Speaking on behalf of the players, captain Aaron Katebe described the morale in Dynamos as high ahead of the Sunday clash. Katebe expressed optimism the team will triumph over Vipers having prepared adequately.

“I know every game is different but we just have to go and win to make our fans proud. We have no choice but to qualify to the group stage. This is not about Power as a club but it is about Zambia,” he said.

Dynamos are away to Vipers in the first leg of the second preliminary round first leg fixture, and will host the Ugandans in the return fixture with the winner qualifying to the lucrative group stage.

Mutapa’s side are buoyant having eliminated African heavies ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast in the first preliminary round of the Champions League.
