Orlando Pirates FC’s coach Jose Riveiro has explained the difference between Al Ahly and Pyramids, who they meet in the CAF Champions League semifinal, second leg match on Friday, April 25, 2025.

The Spaniard was reacting to assertions that the Soweto giants stand a better chance of beating Pyramids, considering that the South Africans prevailed 2-1 over the CAF Champions League holders in the group stages of the continental competition.

“The difference between our match against Al Ahli and Pyramids, is that during the confrontation with Al Ahly we were facing it, and we both guarantors of the ascension, and we fought to climb in the first confrontation, and currently it is different, and we have a chance to reach the final,” Riveiro is quoted saying by South African football news website iDiski Times.

“We and Pyramids played offensive football in the first leg, and we will do everything to play to reach the final.”

Ahead of the semifinal match, Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Jurcic dismissed those underrating his charges based on Pirates’ victory over the Club of the Century.

Jurcic said: “Yes, Orlando Pirates beat Al Ahly and MC Alger away from home, but let's not forget that Pyramids never loses at home and always wins. This is our strength, and we will play on it. All remaining games are finals."

Pyramids returned from South Africa with a 0-0 draw against Pirates last week.
