CAFCL – Reghecampf: ‘Al Hilal Omdurman should be careful with Berkane’

Al Hilal Omdurman coach Laurentiu Reghecampf has forewarned his team to tread carefully in Sunday’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) match in Rwanda.

The Sudanese side will host the Moroccans at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali while carrying an away goal advantage following a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinal first leg match played on March 15.

The Rwandan Premier League pacesetters can progress to the semifinal stage with any draw while any win for the Botola Pro 1 side would be bad news for the Kigali hosts.

How Al Hilal Omdurman can progress to the CAF Champions League semifinal stage

Despite that advantage, Reghecampf told the club’s media that the tie remains delicately balanced with everything to play for in 90 minutes.

“It is football and every time, things happen on the field [of play],” the coach said.

“We cannot know now what will happen tomorrow. We just have to prepare our team to be ready for everything.”

The Romanian added: “We have a chance because we didn’t lose in the first-leg game in Morocco and now we have this chance to play at home.  I am ready from my side, and I try to give that to my team. [However], we must be careful. We are playing against a good team. It is different from the other opponents we have played until now. I am sure they will give us a good game. I am not worried about that.”

How Al Hilal Omdurman came back from Morocco with a point

Al-Hilal came back from Morocco with a good a point despite having finished the Champions League quarterfinal, first leg with a man down after Stephen Steven Ebuela was shown a red card.

Yet the start to the proceedings was encouraging for the Sudanese giants. Adama Coulibaly produced a brilliant dribbling run on the right flank before setting up Abdel Raouf for a finish from close range for Al Hilal’s opener.

But in stoppage time, Hilal right back Ebuela’s careless late challenge took down Berkane substitute Hamza El Moussaoui after a cross attempt and a penalty kick was awarded. A red card was issued to the Congolese defender following a VAR review before Mounir Chouiar fired past goalkeeper Farid Ouédraogo from the spot to equalize at the end.

Now the overall winner over the two legs between Al-Hilal and Berkane will face AS FAR also from Morocco.
