CAFCL: Romain Folz urges for patience despite Young Africans huge win

Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Romain Folz is adamant that his side is yet to reach the level he wants to see them play despite starting off their CAF Champions League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 away win against Angolan side Wiliete Benguela on Friday.

In the first round preliminary fixture at 11 de Novembro Stadium in Talatona, Angola, the Citizens took the lead courtesy of Aziz Andabwile, before Clement Mzize and Mohamed Doumbia combined to set up Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube for the second. Edmund John wrapped up the emphatic victory with the third.

“It was a good game, I think we got the result we wanted, but I still believe there is still room to do more, being 1-0 at half-time I don’t think it was enough, but ultimately we are happy with the result,” Folz told Pan-Africa Football after the game.

Yanga still work in progress, things will get better

“We are still in progress, we have just started the season, but I am confident we are going to get much better than we did, but for the time being, it was not a bad result.”

He continued: “If you look at it from the other side, we did not concede a goal, and we did not even look like we could concede, only one chance in the box, but nothing really of that that put us in trouble, so it is not going to be perfect from the start, there is still a lot of work to do, but from, but for now considering we just started the season, it is not bad.”

The two teams will meet next Saturday for the second leg at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The winner of the tie will face the winner between Madagascar’s Elgeco Plus and Malawian club Silver Strikers.
