Malawi’s Silver Strikers assistant coach Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa has highlighted the team’s mentality going into the CAF Champions League game against Elgeco Plus FC on Sunday.
Mwafulirwa shared the mood in the camp of the TNM Super League defending champions, adding that they are not in Mauritius, where the Malagasy side are hosting the CAF matches, on a holiday.
The right-hand man for Peter Mgangira, therefore, stressed the need for Strikers to come back from the island nation with a positive result from the preliminary round, first leg match.
“Playing in CAF, there are a lot of chances that players can be exposed to and go professional. Therefore, the players are much willing to do well. We are going to do well. The probability and the chances are high than losing. We know that we have travelled. We have not come here for a holiday. We have come here for three points. We want to proceed to the group stages,” Mwafulirwa said.
The Strikers mentor then explained the sort of the opposition he is expecting from the Malagasy champions.
“The first thing when you are working, you have to know your enemies, so we have sourced a number of their videos. We know how they play,” he added.
“So we know when to attack and defend. We know how we will approach the game. We have come here for the three points and we are confident that we will get them,” he said.
Silver are returning to the continental competition after winning last year’s domestic league title.
Strikers left Malawi on Thursday and arrived in Mauritius on Friday. The Central Bankers will face off with the Malagasy side at Côte d’Or National Complex.
The winner of this two legged-tie will face Yanga FC of Tanzania in the second preliminary round.
