Burkina Faso international Mohamed Zougrana has said MC Alger were the better side in their 1-0 first leg home defeat to Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals. MC Alger now have an uphill task to get a victory in South Africa and advance in the competition.

Zougrana came on as a second half substitute as MCA were trailing 1-0 to Pirates. Reflecting on the game, the Burkinabe midfielder lamented on missed chances for the home side. “I think that overall, we had a good match. It's just that we missed scoring goals. Otherwise, we were better. It was a very good match.”

MCA exerted much pressure in both halves but lost the encounter. Zougrana added they followed the instruction of coach Khaled Ben Yahia. ”We tried to put into practice what the coach wanted us to do. That was to put a lot of pressure. Nonetheless, we didn’t arrive for the most important occasion.”

Zougrana also said Pirates had one chance to get the win. “They had only one occasion and they put it in the net. That is football unfortunately.”

MC Alger will travel to travel to South Africa for the second leg in Soweto where they plan to overturn the first leg defeat and advance to the semifinals.
