ZESCO United coach Emmanuel Siwale has called on supporters to turn up in numbers and back the team against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round first leg clash at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference in Ndola on Friday, Siwale said his players were aware of the importance of the fixture and are prepared to give their best performance. He called on the fans to turn up and support the team as they carry out a national assignment.
“This is a national issue, so to speak. We are not just playing as ZESCO, we are representing the country. That’s why I had to make that appeal to all the Zambians, even other supporters or fans, to come in large numbers because we need them more than ever before,” he said as quoted by FAZ Media.
“We have to do well tomorrow [Saturday] and then talk about these others. So our focus is on tomorrow’s game. We have to get a positive result.”
Speaking on behalf of the players, captain Lindo Mkhonta said the squad will double their efforts against Galaxy.
“As players, we are going to double our effort. The effort that we put in when we played FC 105, we are going to double it because this is a new game. We have to work hard on it,” he explained.
“Tomorrow (Saturday) is a new game. We are going to face a new challenge. It won’t be the same as FC 105. But we promise that we are going to do our best to do better in this coming game.”
ZESCO reached the second round after eliminating FC 105 from Libreville 5-2 on aggregate. ZESCO lost the first away 2-0 but recovered at home to win 5-0.
