CAFCL: Zimbabwe FA throws weight behind Simba Bhora

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has thrown its weight behind the country’s representatives in the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League.

Simba Bhora FC are flying Zimbabwe’s flag in the continental league. The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit faces Nsingizini Hotspurs in a preliminary round match in Eswatini on Sunday. The match is scheduled for Somhololo Stadium.

The Zimbabweans will carry a 1-0 lead going into the second leg in Eswatini. This follows the success of coach Joel Luphahla’s men in the first leg match played played last Sunday at the Obedi Itan Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana. Ishmael Nyahni scored the only goal for Bhora.

The Castle Lager PSL holders hosted the match in the neighbouring country as they do not have a certified match venue.

What Zimbabwe FA president told Simba Bhora

Now ahead of the deciding tie, ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has released a statement wishing Bhora well as they seek to advance to the next round of the continental league.

“As the decisive return leg approaches this Sunday, ZIFA wishes to reaffirm its unwavering support for the team. Every Zimbabwean is united in rallying behind you, urging you on to secure qualification into the next round. The Association believes that with focus, determination, and collective spirit, Simba Bhora will once again rise to the occasion,” the statement reads.

Bhora might have a slender lead but they have an advantage over the Eswatini opponents considering that the Zimbabweans can sail through to the next round with any draw result.

Hotspurs, on the other hand, need to win by a two-goal margin victory to advance into the next phase of the continental competition.
