CAFWCL: AS FAR snatch a semifinal victory in dramatic fashion

Host club AS FAR of Morocco qualified for the final of the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League following their victory this Tuesday evening against their Egyptian counterpart FC Masar, with a score of 2-1 in of the match played on the pitch of the Stade El Abdi in El Jadida.


Safa Banouk opened the scoring for AS FAR in the 12th minute before goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi preserved the lead soon after with a decisive save on a penalty from FC Masar's Burundian attacker Sandrine Niyonkuru in the 18th minute.


In the second period, Sanaâ Mssoudy's teammates tried to keep the advantage in the score but the end of the match became the scene of a dramatic finish. After Er-Rmichi saved another penalty kick, the VAR determined that Er-Rmichi left her line early and gave the Egyptian club a second chance that was converted by Maya Abdelrazek.


FC Masar thought the match was set for extra time after scoring the equalizing goal but did not see Doha El Madani coming. The young Moroccan starlet snatched qualification by scoring a winning goal in the 97th minute for her tournament-leading sixth goal of the competition.


AS FAR will try to win its second continental crown by facing TP Mazembe next Saturday in the final which will be played in El Jadida.
