CAFWCL COSAFA Qualifiers: Costa do Sol’s style prevailed—Tamele

Costa do Sol coach Clesio Tamele has explained how his Mozambican team’s playing style prevailed over that of Herentals Queens in South Africa on Saturday.

The Mozambican champions stunned the fancied opponents from Zimbabwe 2-0 to make a dream start to the Group C race of the CAF Women’s Champions League: COSAFA Qualifiers at UJ AW Muller Stadium in Johannesburg.

“For us it is important to win the first game,” Tamele told COSAFA media.

“The Zimbabwe team played long balls and our team played short balls. We were learning during the game and we changed some positions. We noted that they were so slow in making transitions hence we won the balls and made counterattacks to win the game.”

Costa do Sol took the lead from a counterattack on the left where the ball was played across the goal mouth in the 29th minute for Lucia to tap in.

Eunencia Machava cushioned the lead for the Mozambicans with a long-range stunner to make it 2-0 shortly after the break.

The regional qualifiers started on Friday when Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and ZESCO Ndola Ladies registered 3-0 victories over Malawi’s Ntopwa Ladies and Beauties FC of Namibia respectively.

Sundowns will now take on ZESCO Ndola Ladies on Sunday while Ntopwa will seek to bounce back when they face Beauties FC from Namibia on Sunday.
