Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies inched closer to the semifinals of the CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL): COSAFA Qualifiers while Namibia’s Beauties FC registered their first win in South Africa on Sunday.
The two-time champions and hosts shrugged off Zambia’s ZESCO Ndola Ladies 1-0 to take their tally in Group A to six points. Sundowns just need a draw against Beauties in the final match of the group on Tuesday.
Two days after thumping Ntopwa 3-0, Godfrey Sapula’s girls returned to UJ AW Muller Stadium in Johannesburg for a meeting with the Zambian champions who succumbed to Boitumelo Rabale’s 18th-minute strike.
In a noon kick-off, Beauties FC proved too strong for Ntopwa with a 3-0 victory, thanks to Millicent Hikuam’s brace and one strike from Twelikondjele Amukoto.
The midfielder scored her first goal via a delightful freekick two minutes after restart before adding the second in the 58th minute followed by Amukoto’s finish with three minutes remaining on the clock. Beauties must now brace for a meeting with Sundowns.
Isaac Osman’s Ntopwa are the only team in the group without a win let alone a goal after making their second appearance at the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Sundowns on Friday.
Ntopwa are as well out of the running for the next stage of the competition going into Tuesday’s dead-rubber against ZESCO.
