Wednesday's second match from Group B at the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League ended in a scoreless 0-0 draw between Nigeria's Edo Queens and FC Masar of Egypt, leaving both teams tied at the top of the group on 4 points each. The opportunities began to arrive in the second half as the urgency increased but strong goalkeeping highlighted a lack of separation between the two teams. Three clubs will battle for two spots on the final day with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns lurking behind both teams on 3 points.
The first half was largely an even affair with opportunities difficult to create for both teams. Masar continued to display a resolute defense that kept the youthful Edo Queens attack from causing any significant problems. For their part the Nigerian champions remained organized against a strong Masar attack featuring Burundian star Sandrine Niyonkuru.
The action increased in the second half but it took until the final half hour for any threat to emerge towards either goal. Masar created a dangerous cross from the right wing after the hour mark but Edo Queens goalkeeper Monle Oyono did excellently to get a hand and touch the ball out of play with Masar's Shadia Nankya lurking behind.
The best opportunity for Edo Queens came late on from a strong long range blast by Miracle Usani but Masar goalkeeper Habiba Eltaher provided a strong punch to deflect the ball out of play. Edo Queens will have the tall task of facing Mamelodi Sundowns in their final group stage match on Saturday where a defeat will likely eliminate the Nigerian club. FC Masar appear likely to win the group if they can defeat Ethiopia's CBE where they will be heavy favorites.
