Nigerian champions Edo Queens got off to a winning start to conclude the opening round of matches in Group B at the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League, defeating Ethiopia's CBE by a 3-0 score in Casablanca. Emem Peace Essien opened the scoring inside five minutes for the WAFU-Zone B champions and second half strikes from Folashade Ijamilusi and Chukwuamaka Osigwe confirmed maximum points for Edo Queens.

Edo Queens looked more comfortable and confident of the two clubs who were both making their CAFWCL debuts. The CBE defense had little time to settle and paid the price for sloppy marking in the 5th minute. Ijamilusi made a surging run down the right flank and produced an accurate cross for Essien, who had time to collect and hold off a defender before calmly finishing low past CBE goalkeeper and captain Tarkikua Balcha.

The performance from CBE improved after halftime but the Ethiopian club suffered another setback in the 55th minute when Folashade received a cross from opposite winger Esther Moses and fired her shot over a sliding Balcha.

The young Edo Queens side continued to control the match and it was 17-year-old Chukwuamaka Osigwe who registered the third goal in the 80th minute. It was Moses who again played provider with another cross from the right flank for Osigwe to control with an excellent right footed first touch followed by a powerful left footed strike for a well taken goal. Edo Queens will next face Sunday's other surprise winners, FC Masar of Egypt, on Wednesday while CBE have the tallest of tasks against group favorites Mamelodi Sundowns.
