Egypt's FC Masar did just enough to seize third place on Friday at the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League by defeating Nigerian champions Edo Queens 4-3 in a penalty shootout played in El Jadida, Morocco. Ali Mahira converted the winning penalty kick for the club from Cairo after an even clash left the teams scoreless.
Edo Queens were able to create a couple of opportunities but strong defense and goalkeeping saw the two teams neutralize each other throughout the 90 minutes. Mahira had a chance late on to win it for Masar but her shot from a tight angle was well saved by Queens goalkeeper Monle Oyono.
Penalties were required to separate the teams and it was an ominous start for Edo Queens when their first attempt was saved. In the beginning of the fourth round of penalties, Masar's Maya Abdelrazak sent her effort over the bar and things were level again. However, immediately after Edo Queens captain Olise Chioma fired wide and Mahira finished her attempt to confirm the victory for Masar soon after.
