CAFWCL: JKT Queens secure historic second CECAFA regional title

JKT Queens were crowned champions of the CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) CECAFA qualifying tournament on Tuesday after beating Rwandan side Rayon Sports Women 1-0 in the final at Kasarani Stadium, Kenya. The Tanzanian side has become the most successful club from the region, having won their second title.

Rayon Sports were the giant killers of the tournament on their way to the final. They dumped out reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Ugandan side Kampala Queens from the tournament.

In a tightly contested final, JKT Queens showed their experience at the highest level compared to Rayon Sports, who were unsettled by the early goal they conceded. Winfrida Gerald headed home from close range after a good long ball from the middle of the park found her unmarked in the fifth minute.

Rayon’s attempt to restore parity was largely futile. The second half saw a more defensive JKT side as they sought to protect their narrow lead. The Tanzanians were limited to counterattacks and fast transitions, but they were defensively solid and better organized.

JKT Queens won the tournament in 2023, and their 2025 triumph means they are the only CECAFA Zone club to win the tournament twice. Elsewhere, a first-half goal from Margret Kunihira was enough to hand Kenya Police Bullets third place over Kampala Queens.
