CAFWCL WAFU-B Zone: ASEC Mimosas overpower USFA to top Group A

Already qualified for the semi-finals, ASEC Mimosas and USFA met this Friday in Yamoussoukro to determine the pecking order in Group A from the CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) zonal qualifying tournament in West Africa’s WAFU-B zone. The Ivorian side proved stronger, cruising to a convincing 3-0 victory.

The breakthrough came as early as the 21st minute, when Ami Prisca Diallo rose highest to head home from a corner. Despite a timid reaction, USFA relied on their goalkeeper to prevent a heavier scoreline before the break. In the second half, however, ASEC confirmed their dominance. Sophie Brou doubled the lead in the 77th minute, before Essi Dagba sealed the win late on.

With this result, ASEC finish top of Group A ahead of USFA. AS Garde Nationale of Niger (GNN), beaten 2-1 by ASEC and 1-0 by USFA, are eliminated after two defeats. The two qualifiers will now wait to learn their semi-final opponents from Group B.
