Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana’s stay at Manchester United might be coming to an end.
The blunder-prone keeper’s future with the Premier League team has come under intense scrutiny after yet a shaky start to the season.
The former Inter Milan shot-stopper has featured in one competitive game this Premier League season.
In that single appearance, Onana came under scrutiny as Reuben Amorim’s side lost 12-11 on post-match penalties to lower league side Grimsby Town days ago. The game had ended two-all in regulation time.
Onana was eventually relegated back to the bench in last weekend’s Premier League game against Burnley FC. United won 3-2 before going into the international break.
Now, reports in England suggest that Turkish side Trabzonspor have reached a verbal agreement to sign Onana on loan.
Sky Sports quoted football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano as having confirmed the possibility of the transfer.
Another news publication, The Athletic, has also reported about Onana’s potential switch. The Cameroonian is said to be still weighing the options ahead of the closure of the Turkish transfer window on September 12.
Onana has lost his first-choice jersey to Altay Bayindir. The Cameroonian faces even more competition from newly signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
Despite such criticism in England, the former Ajax Amsterdam FC man remains the trusted pair of hands for Cameroon in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Eswatini.
Onana kept a clean sheet as Cameroon thrashed Eswatini 3-0 a few days ago. Cameroon’s next match in the World Cup qualifiers is against tricky Cape Verde on September 9 in Praia.
