Former Cameroon national team star Geremi Njitap has been slapped with a five-year ban from football by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT). The former Chelsea and Real Madrid right back is currently the head of the country’s players’ union.
Geremi is a vocal opponent of FECAFOOT and their handling of player affairs in Cameroon. He was suspended in May by FECAFOOT for incidents that happened during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The disciplinary committee of FECAFOOT is said to have been investigating the case for the past year with the incident in question yet to be revealed.
Cameroon’s football faithful are calling for an agreement to be reached between Geremi and a faction of FECAFOOT, considering his role with the Cameroon Footballers’ Union (SYNAFOC) and the nation’s domestic football.
FECAFOOT has been embroiled in controversy since national hero Samuel Eto’o became president. The scandals surrounding the federation keep emerging and this time they involve Eto’o’s former Indomitable Lions teammate.
