Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar targeted by Neftci Baku

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar has received an offer from Azerbaijani club Neftçi Baku. The former Porto and Beşiktaş forward has been a free agent since leaving Turkish side Hatayspor in May this year.

The 33-year-old has yet to find a new club despite reported suitors after former club Hatayspor failed to avoid relegation from the Turkish top flight. According to Turkish journalist Reşat Can Özbudak, Azerbaijani outfit Neftçi Baku has shown strong interest in signing Aboubakar on a free transfer. The Baku-based club is currently eighth in the league with six points from five games as they set their eyes on strengthening their forward line.

Over the past few months, Aboubakar has only managed to play four competitive games with the Cameroon national team. The Indomitable Lions captain now finds himself in a predicament, as finding a new club is essential to keep his place in the national team. Cameroon head coach Marc Brys still views Aboubakar as a main striker, but the forward may not be included if he continues to be a free agent ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
