Tchatchoua: Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Facebook page
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Cameroonian defender Jackson Tchatchoua has reacted to his ‘dream’ Premier League debut.
The right-back came off the bench to replace injured Ki-Jana Hoever on the half-hour mark at the Vitality Stadium. Wolves eventually lost the game 1-0.
The Cameroonian’s debut in the Premier League game against Bournemouth FC came week’s after he completed his transfer from Serie A side, Hellas Verona.
Tchatchoua told the club’s media that his side fought for a point despite finishing the game with 10 men.
“I’m very happy for my debut game, but the result is not good because we lost, but I think the team showed good spirit in this match,” the defender said.
“The team put a very good mentality on the pitch. We wanted to take some points from this match, but sometimes it’s like this. But the most important thing is the team pushed to try to take a point and showed a very good mentality on the pitch.”
Tchatchoua then shared the feeling of donning Wolves’ black and gold.
“I’m happy to play for this club, the fans are very nice, and when I came onto the pitch, the intensity is very high, and minute after minute, I took to the rhythm and after I felt good,” Tchatchoua added.
“It’s a very good move, but I think I also have the physical quality for playing in this championship. Playing in the Premier League is my dream, and I’m sure I can do something good in this championship.”
Tchatchoua carved out a reputation as one of the fastest defenders in Serie A, clocking 36.3km/h last season.
The 23-year-old also proved adept on the opposite side of the pitch, registering two goals and three assists last season, the latest being on his last Serie A appearance against Empoli in May.
Tchatchoua launched his professional football career with Charleroi in Belgium and made his debut in 2021.
The young wingback debuted for Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in June 2024.
The Cameroonian left Verona after making 43 appearances. Tchatchoua has now joined other Africans at the Molineux such as Zimbabwean Marshall Munetsi.
