Cape Town City FC have announced Jan Vreman as their new head coach as they brace for life in the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Vreman, a Dutch coach, previously managed second-division side De Graafschap in his native Netherlands. He steps into the role after Diogo Peral served as interim coach towards the end of last season, who himself took over from Muhsin Ertugral.
The 59-year-old Vreman began his coaching career in 2003 as a youth coach at De Graafschap. He later became assistant manager from 2006 to 2014, before taking on the interim manager position that same year and then being appointed permanently for two seasons.
In his first full season at the helm, Vreman guided De Graafschap to promotion to the Eredivisie, though the club was relegated back to the second division the following season.
The UEFA Pro Licence holder shared his ambitions, stating his intent to do everything possible to return the club to its rightful place.
“We want to play attractive football. Football that wins us games and earns the respect of fans and everyone that watches us,” Vreman told the club’s media team.
“We want to fill the stands and give people a reason to show up and believe in us. Yes, of course. We have a good team. It’s been a difficult year, but these are quality players, and we will do everything to get this club to where it belongs.”
