Cape Town City snap up former Sundowns defender Sifiso Ngobeni

Cape Town City FC have signed former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Sifiso Ngobeni on a free transfer ahead of the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Ngobeni, a talented left-back, struggled to break into Sundowns’ star-studded squad after joining the team in 2021. He was sent on loan to SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC but failed to secure regular playing time. With the Tshwane giants having multiple options at left-back, they decided to part ways with him at the end of the last campaign.

The 2025/26 NFD season is set to begin in the coming weeks, and Ngobeni has signed a deal with Cape Town City, a club recently relegated to the Championship after losing in the PSL playoffs.

In a statement, Cape Town City said, “We are delighted to announce the signing of defender, Sifiso Ngobeni. Born in Mamelodi. Built for The City. Welcome to the City family, Sifiso Ngobeni.”

The Citizens are expected to make more signings as they aim for an immediate return to South Africa’s top-flight.
