Zamalek suffered their first defeat of the Egypt Capital Cup (League Cup) this season after a narrow 1-0 loss to Smouha on Thursday evening.
The match was played at Arab Contractors Stadium as part of the third round of Group C in the Egypt Capital Cup.
Smouha broke the deadlock in the 40th minute through Hossam Ashraf, who scored with a shot that found the back of Mohamed Awad’s net, giving the Alexandria-based side a 1-0 lead.
Despite Zamalek’s attempts to get back into the game, the scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, as Smouha secured a valuable victory.
With this result, Zamalek’s points tally remained at four, placing them second in the Group C standings. The Whites had started their campaign with a 3-3 draw against Ismailia Electricity, followed by a 2-1 win over Haras El Hodoud in the second round, before suffering this defeat against Smouha.
On the other hand, Smouha claimed their first win in the competition, raising their points total to four as well and keeping their qualification hopes alive.
In other matches on the same day, Pyramids suffered a 3-1 defeat against Ismaily, with Pyramids participating in the tournament using their youth team.
Al Masry also recorded a 1-0 victory over Haras El Hodoud, while El Gouna and National Bank played out a 1-1 draw.
