Zimbabwe: CAPS United unbeaten run ends, Scottland FC close in

Ngezi Platinum FC edged CAPS United 1-0 on Thursday to end the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) leaders’ unbeaten four-game run, thereby giving holders Scottland FC a chance to close in.

Coach Takesure Chiragwi’s side travelled to Baobab Stadium to face his former employers in perfect form after having dumped them to sign for his current side, which is also called the Green Machine of Makepekepe.

However, the visitors were stopped in their tracks with Aswin Karengesha scoring the only goal of the match to spoil Chiragwi’s homecoming.

What the first defeat of the Castle Lager PSL season means to CAPS United

The first defeat of the season allowed second-positioned Scottland FC, the defending champions, to close to within one point of the pacesetters after defeating hosts TelOne FC 3-2 also on Thursday.

Former Orlando Pirates striker Terence Dzakumanja, Emmanuel Ziotcha and captain Walter Musona were on target for the visitors.

The attention of Makepekepe will now turn to a meeting with Manica Diamonds FC on Sunday in round six of the Castle Lager PSL.

What were the results elsewhere in the Castle Lager PSL?

Elsewhere, third-placed Dynamos FC revival continued with a 1-0 victory over MWOS FC to hand them their first loss of the season join Scottland FC on 11 points from five games.

Hardrock beat Herentals 4-1, while 2024 Castle Lager PSL winners Simba Bhora could only also settle for a barren draw with Bulawayo Chiefs, just as was the case with Manica Diamonds and AGAMA FC, while Hunters FC and ZPC drew 1-1 with Kariba FC.
