Kaizer Chiefs captain Inácio Miguel has disclosed one tactical aspect the South African team struggled with last season and how they are rectifying it during the pre-season.
The Angolan talked about AmaKhosi’s biggest technical challenge in reaction to the team’s first win of their pre-season tour of the Netherlands. The Betway Premiership outfit beat Dutch opponent PEC Zwolle 1-0 courtesy of Naledi Hlongwane’s goal on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the match, Miguel said Chiefs were showing signs of improvements on many technical aspects.
“Pre-season is all about incorporating the ideas of the coach, the new players and then, of course, there are the tactical aspects. Last season, we struggled to get that combination right, even though the process was right,” the centre-back told Chiefs media.
The former Petro de Luanda defender described their first win in four attempts as part of building the foundation for the 2025-2026 campaigns in the Betway Premiership and in Africa.
He said: “We have seen how our performances improved with each match we played. Meanwhile, we are looking for the foundation, which is needed to do well and be ready when the season starts – for the league, the cup competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.”
Chiefs have so far lost to Vitesse (2-1), FC Utrecht (4-0) and NEC Nijmegen (1-0). Upon their return, the Glamour Boys will continue with their pre-season by playing against Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 26 July.
