Carabao Cup: Guinea-Bissau midfielder Mamadi Camara powers Reading to next round

Guinea-Bissau’s attacking midfielder Mamadi Caba Camara proved important for Reading FC in their EFL round 2 clash against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday – scoring late in the game to qualify the side for the next round.

In a keenly contested game at the Madejski Stadium, Liam Foster scored Reading’s opener in the 24th minute from a rasping long range strike after he was set up by Kamari Doyle.

Wimbledon however had other ideas, grabbing the equalizer two minutes after they had gone down. Lebanese striker Omar Bugiel headed in the leveler from a well taken Jake Reeves corner kick. The score line remained at 1-1 moving into the half time break.

Reading returned for the second department of the game in search of the winner but Wimbledon remained resolute in defence, clearing their lines with great finesse.

Reading manager Noel Hunt effected changes, introducing Mamadi Camara for Patrick Lane in the 46th minute and the Guinea-Bissau midfielder made his time count by scoring the winner in the 70th minute.

The 21-year-old positioned himself just in the penalty area to make a cool tap-in from Andre Garcia’s low cross. They have now qualified for the next round of the competition but will now turn attention to the League One at home to Port Vale on August 30.
