Carabao Cup: Marmoush and Ait-Nouri return to form for City

Manchester City overcame an early goal to defeat Swansea City 3-1 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday with goal contributions from Omar Marmoush and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Egyptian international Marmoush produced an excellent finish into the roof of the Swansea net in his first start since returning from injury. With the teams tied at 1-1, the former Eintracht Frankfurt star smashed in the match winner in the 77th minute.

While the Egyptian forward had made two brief substitute appearances in City’s previous matches, Wednesday marked the return of Algeria left back Ait-Nouri after two months out.

Spending a little over 60 minutes on the pitch after getting the start, the attacking fullback helped City equalize before halftime when his pass found Jeremy Doku on the left wing. The Belgian winger did the rest, cutting inside from the flank before his shot deflected past Swansea keeper Andy Fisher.

Rayan Cherki confirmed victory with his goal in stoppage time after previously setting up City’s second goal. City advance to the quarterfinals with the victory and will next host Bournemouth on Sunday as they look to return to winning ways in Premier League play following their 0-1 result to Aston Villa last weekend.
