Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman will meet Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars in the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup after both teams emerged victorious in Saturday’s semifinal action.
The KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam played host to a thrilling opening semifinal, where Hilal came from behind to defeat Rwandan champions APR FC by a 3-1 score.
Ivorian striker William Togui gave APR a first half lead and it appeared that the Kigali club would hold off the Sudanese champions. However, Altayeb Abaker’s 83rd minute equalizer restored parity and extra time was needed to separate the teams.
With momentum on the side of Hilal, APR lost their focus and an ill-advised backpass allowed Abdel Raouf to intercept and finish. Hilal added another goal fifteen minutes later to confirm their place in the final, where they will meet Tanzanian big spenders Singida Black Stars.
Zambian playmaker Clatous Chama was among the scorers in a 2-0 victory for the ambitious club, who are seeking their first trophy after making progress with a fourth place finish in Tanzania’s Mainland Premier League last season.
Ivorian fullback Andy Koffi put the match away with his second half goal as Singida defeated fellow Tanzanian top flight side Kinondoni MC, who lacked the firepower to compete against a club with deeper pockets and established foreign stars.
The final between Singida Black Stars and Al Hilal will take place on Monday at 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT) at the KMC Stadium after Kinondoni MC and APR compete for third place in the earlier match.
