The group stage is complete at the CECAFA Kagame Cup and Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman confirmed their place in the semifinals after a victory to conclude Group C action on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
It was a dream start to life at Al Hilal for Liberian starlet Kindness Cole, who opened the scoring in a 3-1 victory over South Sudan’s Kator FC. Cole finished after a weaving run on the left flank from Yaser Awad, who crossed for the Liberian to finish in the penalty area.
Kator leveled the match a minute later but Al Hilal pushed back with force. Nigerian attackers Sunday Adetunji and Taiwo Akire each scored within a couple of minutes to complete an opening twenty minutes that featured all four goals.
Hilal finished level on five points with Mogadishu City of Somalia but progress to the semifinals by virtue of a superior goal difference. The Somalian club completed an impressive performance at the competition by defeating another Sudanese club, Al Ahli Wad Madani, with a 2-1 result.
Sudanese champions Hilal join fellow group winners Singida Black Stars and Rwanda’s APR FC as well as Group B runners-up Kinondoni MC. KMC joined fellow Tanzanian club Singida in the semifinals after finishing as the best runner-up from the three groups.
The semifinals will begin on Friday, September 12 at the KMC Stadium. Al Hilal will face APR FC in an enticing match to begin the action before Singida Black Stars face Kinondoni MC.
