Rwandan champions APR FC and Tanzania’s Kinondoni MC will battle it out for first place in Group B after both sides won on Saturday to remain perfect at the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
Ivorian striker William Togui put APR well out of reach with his second goal of the competition against Zanzibar’s Mlandefe as the Kigali giants eased to a 2-0 victory in Saturday’s second match. Burkinabe attacker Memel Dao also impressed once again, opening the scoring and continung to look like an excellent signing since being acquired from Rail Club Kadiogo.
In the earlier match from Saturday, Tanzanian club Kinondoni Municipal Council also moved to two wins from two games with a 1-0 result over Burundi’s Bumamuru FC. Erick Mwijage finished a strong team movement in the 20th minute for the only goal of the match.
Now the two winners from Saturday, each with a perfect record through two matches, will face off on Tuesday to determine the winners of Group B. The second place finisher will be in strong contention to still qualify for the semifinals as the best second placed team from the three groups.
On Friday, Ethiopian Coffee and Singida Black Stars moved into the top-two positions with victories. On Sunday, Group C will proceed with its second round of matches after all four teams began with draws. Sudan’s Al Hilal Omdurman are the favorites to win the group but encountered a difficult opening match draw with Mogadishu City of Somalia.
